Frequently Asked Questions
General
+ What is your process when you come to perform the picture hanging / mirror hanging / art installation?
We arrive with a clean and organised professional tool kit for the installation and hanging of art works. We ask you to give us an overview of your hanging job and show us all the locations and art works. From there we can discuss placement, arrangement and hanging heights. If any items have special requirements we can inspect and discuss with you the best solutions. We make sure we work tidily producing minimal dust and mess and we endeavour to leave the location in the same state as we arrived by vacuuming any residual dust and returning all furniture to its original location.
+ How can you help me and why should I choose you?
If you have an art work or mirror that is fragile, sensitive or heavy and you are looking for an expert to hang or install it then you should consider us for your hanging. With years of experience in the art industry working in museums, galleries, art fairs and auction houses we have familiarity with many kinds of art works and appropriate methods for their hanging and installation.
+ Can you help me curate / arrange the items?
Having been in many different homes and businesses for art hanging, we can give our professional advice on placement, arrangement, locations and heights. We try to make suggestions based on existing items hanging already and working with and around furniture, we try to interpret your style and work with you on how to bring in the new items. We are big believers in gut instinct when it comes to decisions and will often suggest trying a few options when looking at placements and hopefully finding the one that your gut instinct tells you is right.
We can offer this as a standalone service if you wish but are happy to help with the hanging of the items too.
+ Do you bring everything required?
Yes, we bring all the tools, ladders and fixings required for completing your job and you do not need to provide anything.
+ How long will it take?
Each job is different as one large, heavy or difficult item can take an hour to prepare and hang safely, whereas smaller lighter items can be at an average rate of 5 to 6 an hour. Time taken is also dependant on wall material and the existing fixtures on the art works. When you contact us we can give a more accurate estimate with further details about your job.
+ How much will it cost?
We have a standardised hourly installation rate for all jobs depending on whether one or two persons are required. Please get in contact with some details about your job and we can give an estimate quote for the cost.
We charge only for time on site and after the minimum apointment time of 1 hour we charge by the quarter hour, you only pay for the time the service takes.
For jobs outside of London we have a small charge for the driving time to cover our time and fuel costs.
Standard materials such as screws, hooks, plugs, d-rings etc. are all included in our rate. If premium hanging devices are required (usually for heavy items) we will advise on the cost.
If road tolls are required to visit your location or if paid parking is required, these are charged as additional costs.
+ Can you hang my exhibition at a gallery / fair?
We regularly work with artists, collectors, dealers and galleries to hang exhibitions in galleries and art fairs.
If you have limited time or a tight schedule for the installation we can arrange for a team to get it done in time. Please give as much notice as possible for this.
+ Can you repair a crack in a mirror or a picture frame?
Unfortunately this isn't within our area of expertise but we can make recommendations for a restoration specialist that can advise you on a solution.
+ Do you do picture framing?
We don't do picture framing ourselves but we can recommend businesses that we work with regularly that are affordable and create frames to high standards.
+ Can you collect / deliver my art work / framed picture / mirror?
We are able to make collections and deliveries for art works, picture frames and mirrors.
We can take deliveries of multiple items up to 1.3M or single larger items up to 1.6M. Please contact us to discuss your requirements. For larger items we can recommend a partner business that we work with.

Art Installation
+ What is Art Installation?
The definition of Art Installation in this context is the hanging or securing of art works that aren't framed pictures or canvases. In galleries and museums the term 'install' for an exhibition covers the moving and handling as well as the hanging of art. For us it is a term that covers art works that have unique or particular requirements for their display as well as large and heavy frame hanging.
+ Can you tell me how to display an art work?
Initially it is good for us to look at photo's to understand the context of the art work and the intended location. We can also attend your home, office or business location to provide an assessment and a free quotation for the installation of your art work. (We can provide quotations for jobs outside of London subject to a small charge to cover time and expenses)
Picture Hanging
+ What is your Picture Hanging service?
Our London picture hanging service involves an in person visit to help you hang your collection or new items. We can provide curatorial advice in your home or business, advising on placement, arangement and the height of individual or groups of items.
As professional picture hangers we have the expertise to hang your items of any size, straight and level. For groupings we can ensure alignment and accurate spacings between. We use professional equipment to ensure accuracy including spirit levels and lasers.## + What is your process when you come for the picture hanging? We arrive with a clean and organised professional tool kit for the installation and hanging of art works. We ask you to give us an overview of your hanging job and show us all the locations and art works. From there we can discuss placement locations and hanging heights. If any items have special requirements we can inspect and discuss with you the best solutions. We make sure we work tidily producing minimal dust and mess and we endeavour to leave the location in the same state we arrived by vacuum cleaning any residue and returning all furniture to its original location.
+ What height should the pictures be?
We recommend eye level to the middle of the picture for all items except very large or tall pictures. This creates a flow and visual coherence through the room and the collection by centering each picture at a specific middle height creating consistency when the items may vary in size.
+ How do you ensure the pictures stay straight?
Where possible we always hang items from two points, ideally fixed points. This stops the pictures from sliding about when doors are closed or the wind blows through or if they are lightly bumped.
+ Should I hang pictures on every wall?
Not always! Depending on the size of your collection it can be better to make groupings and arrangements and to leave blank spaces to highlight the walls with art works or to give room for the collection to grow.
+ How do you hang pictures on stairs?
We have specialist ladders for hanging pictures on staircases that have height adjustment and are adaptable to most scenarios. We are also licensed to construct scaffold towers on stairs for extremely high walls or challenging locations.
+ Can you hang heavy pictures?
We have a range of fixings suitable for heavy items and experience with different wall materials. There is an upper limit on weight on plasterboard of around 30kg but if studs are available at the location the weight capacity is higher. On masonry (brick/concrete) weight bearing capacity is much higher.
+ I'm concerned about an item being removed from the wall, can you help?
We can provide solutions for preventing thieves or opportunists from removing art works from their locations. Usually this involes springlock fixings and we can provide you a key and instructions on its use. There are also other security fixing methods that can be discussed. We regularly install these fixings for high value items in homes or for areas of transit in public spaces or in businesses such as hotels and restaraunts.
+ Can you put in a picture light?
Unfortunately this needs to be done by a qualified electrician but we can advise on models and manufacturers of picture lights and arrange an electrician to install on request.
Mirror Hanging
+ What is your Mirror Hanging service?
Our London mirror hanging service involves an in person visit to help you hang your mirror. Often we are asked to hang mirrors as our customers feel apprehensive about hanging it safely themselves.
We have experience with many kinds of mirrors and types of wall and can advise on the best fixtures to use for your mirror and wall.
+ What's included in the Mirror Hanging service?
We include all standard materials and fixings in our rate. We have a range of wall fixtures and hanging fixings suitable for many mirrors and different wall materials. We have tested a range of products and their effectiveness and the ones we use we have the most confidence in their abilities. If your mirror needs new hanging fixings or picture hanging wire we include and install these as standard in our picture hanging service.
Some heavier mirrors can require specialist fixtures such as z-bar or steel brackets that come at a small premium and we can advise on their price when required.
+ Can you hang heavy mirrors?
We have a range of fixings suitable for heavy items and experience with different wall materials. There is an upper limit on weight on plasterboard of around 30kg but if studs are available at the location the weight capacity is higher. On masonry (brick/concrete) weight bearing capacity is much higher.
+ Can you hang from the wire on the mirror?
Often mirrors come with hanging mechanisms that the manufacturer has installed that would be suitable, this sometimes includes heavy duty wire. If mirrors are lightweight the wire can usually be used for hanging but for larger or heavier mirrors it is much better to hang from fixtures attached to the frame. Sometimes mirrors come with 3rd party modifications in the form of wire or string and we can advise on their suitability and either replace with fixed point or stronger wire.
+ What height should a mirror be?
This depends on the style of mirror but for medium sized mirrors we usually recommend between shoulder and eye level to the middle of the mirror, and this will depend on the height of the user and the intended location of the mirror.
It's often better to hang mirrors slightly lower than you would hang pictures so they are functional, open up the room and bounce light around the space. If mirrors are too high on the wall often you can only see the ceiling in the reflection.
