Scott Mead - Moments In Time. Exhibition Installation of 100 artworks. (2025)

Installing a Five-Decade Retrospective: Seido Art Services & Scott Mead

In 2025, Seido Art Services were contracted to assist with the installation of a major retrospective exhibition by the artist Scott Mead. The exhibition brought together over 100 artworks spanning five decades of photographic practice, a project that required thoughtful planning, technical precision, and close collaboration at every stage.

As specialists in art installation and exhibition support, we understand that large-scale retrospectives are more than just installations. They are carefully orchestrated environments that must honour the artist’s vision, meet curatorial standards, and deliver an exceptional experience for visitors. This project was a testament to what’s possible when preparation and execution align.

Early Engagement: Laying the Groundwork for Success

Our involvement began in the early planning stages of the exhibition. Working closely with the Scott Mead studio team, we provided consultation on logistical considerations, installation methodology, and spatial planning.

Beyond installation itself, our role included facilitating trusted referrals for key exhibition infrastructure:

  • Exhibition lighting supply and installation

  • Temporary wall and structural builds

By connecting the studio with experienced, reliable partners, we helped streamline the planning process and ensure every technical element aligned with the exhibition’s curatorial ambitions. Early engagement allowed us to anticipate challenges, refine hanging strategies, and coordinate sequencing well in advance of install day.

This proactive approach reduces risk, eliminates last-minute adjustments, and ensures the artist and curatorial team can focus on storytelling rather than logistics.

Collaboration with Studio and Curatorial Teams

Retrospectives require sensitivity. The artworks represent decades of creative evolution, often in varying formats, framing styles, and archival considerations. Our team worked directly with the artist’s studio and the curatorial team to:

  • Review artwork condition and handling requirements

  • Confirm placement plans and sightlines

  • Develop precise hanging schedules

  • Coordinate delivery and staging sequences

Clear communication and shared objectives are central to our process. We approach every project as collaborators, ensuring that the technical execution enhances, rather than interferes with, the curatorial narrative.

Installation Day: 100+ Artworks, One Seamless Execution

The exhibition installation was completed in a single day by our team of expert installers.

Delivering a project of this scale within such a focused timeframe required:

  • Detailed pre-install documentation

  • Pre-measured layouts and marking plans

  • Structured team roles and sequencing

  • Real-time coordination with curators on site

Each artwork was handled with museum-grade care and precision. Our installers worked methodically to achieve exact alignments, consistent spacing, and optimal sightlines throughout the space. The result was a cohesive exhibition that felt effortless to the visitor, even though it represented months of preparation behind the scenes.
