Planning, Access & Safety
Challenging installations often involve difficult access, heavy or fragile works, and sensitive surroundings. Our installers hold CSCS, IPAF and PASMA qualifications, covering safe working practices on sites with these requirements as well as installations involving work at height. We are fully licensed for the hire and operation of scaffold towers and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs), all quoted transparently at cost price.
Where projects demand it, we plan multi-installer teams, detailed installation methodologies and coordinated delivery schedules to ensure efficient and safe execution. Our installation of 400 artworks aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship is a recent example, requiring close coordination with on-site teams within a live, multi-disciplinary shipyard environment to meet fixed programme deadlines.

The definition of Art Installation in this context is the hanging or securing of art works that aren't framed pictures or canvases. In galleries and museums, the term 'install' for an exhibition covers the moving and handling as well as the hanging of art. For us, it is a term that covers art works that have unique or particular requirements for their display, as well as large and heavy frame hanging.

We make on site assessments of art works and objects that require installation. Often art works come with an existing solution for their hanging, and we can advise on the suitability of existing fixtures and where required suggest alternatives. Sometimes certain art works require bespoke mounts fabricated or stronger brackets made, we can source and arrange these with our partner businesses and industry connections.

Yes. We assess the weight, material and centre of gravity of each piece to determine whether it requires a custom plinth, an engineered bracket, or a structural assessment of the floor or wall before installation.

Yes. Depending on the piece, this may include custom French cleats, fabricated steel brackets, polyester or steel wire suspension systems, or protective glazing for particularly vulnerable works.

Yes. We have completed installations within Grade II-listed buildings and other heritage properties, where fixings and handling methods must protect original surfaces, plasterwork and architectural features.

We select fixings appropriate to the wall type and the weight of each item, which minimises disruption to the surrounding surface. Any holes required are kept as small and as few as possible. On plasterboard in particular, using a fixing suited to the actual weight of the item, rather than the smallest fixing that will hold it, reduces the risk of damage over time.

When you get in contact with us, there is some helpful information to help us with understanding your job and providing an accurate quote. Please let us know how many items there are in total, don't worry if there might be a few more on the day. Let us know if there are any large items (over 1.5m) or heavy items (over 15 kg). Let us know if there are any items to be hung very high (over 2m) or on stairs. If there is a particular date you need the job done by or a particular schedule to work around.

Each job is different as one large, heavy or difficult item can take an hour to prepare and hang safely, whereas smaller lighter items can be at an average rate of 5 to 6 an hour. Time taken is also dependent on wall material and the existing fixtures on the art works. When you contact us, we can give a more accurate estimate with further details about your job.

We have a team of expert installers that we can call upon for their assistance with larger projects that require multiple personnel. We will usually need some time to make these arrangements.

For single items or small jobs, we can often accommodate requests within a few days, subject to availability. Larger projects, particularly commercial installations or those requiring additional installers or access equipment, are best booked several weeks in advance to allow for proper planning.

We can provide solutions for preventing thieves or opportunists from removing art works from their locations. Usually this involves security fixings, and we can provide you a key and instructions on their use. We typically install these security fixings for high value items in homes or for areas of transit in public spaces or in businesses such as hotels and restaurants.

We work between 8am and 6pm, but we are flexible and able to accommodate out-of-hours work, including early starts, late night jobs or weekend work. Out-of-hours and weekend work is subject to surcharges that can be discussed on enquiry.
