Shahzia Sikander artwork installation in private residence. (2024)
Seido Art Services was commissioned by Boundary Space in 2024 to support the installation of a large-scale glass artwork by Shahzia Sikander in a private residence. The project was delivered in close collaboration with Bailey & Jones, Sean Kelly New York, EH Scaffolding, and Mayer of Munich, whose combined expertise was essential to its successful completion.
Due to the significant weight and fragility of each glass panel, a team of four specialist art installers from Seido was required for the installation. A representative from Mayer of Munich, who had designed custom stainless steel retaining brackets specifically for this artwork and site, attended to oversee their precise installation. Accuracy at this stage was critical to ensure the long-term stability and safety of the artwork.
Once the brackets were in place, our team coordinated closely with the scaffolders to design the height and configuration of the scaffold tower. This planning allowed us to carefully walk each individual panel onto the scaffolding and position the four installers for the controlled lifting and securing of the glass into the brackets. Extreme care was taken to maneuver the panels slowly and methodically through the stairwell and around scaffolding boards to eliminate any risk of contact or damage to the glass surfaces.
After each section of the artwork was installed, the scaffolding structure had to be partially dismantled and rebuilt to provide safe standing access for the next elevation. This was particularly challenging due to the curving staircase, which was constructed from delicate jesmonite material and could not support any load from the scaffolding. EH Scaffolding expertly engineered a solution that protected the staircase while maintaining full access for the installation team.
The project was completed flawlessly through the close coordination and professionalism of all teams involved. The result is a striking glass artwork elegantly integrated into an unconventional setting, showcased along the sweeping wall of a curved stairwell and enhancing the architectural character of the private residence.
