Protecting Mixed-Media Artworks in Public Spaces: Park Hyatt Installation Project

Art Protection Solutions for High-Traffic Hotel Environments

In 2024, Seido Art Services were commissioned to install protective acrylic covers for a selection of mixed-media artworks displayed in public areas of the Park Hyatt hotel. The artworks were positioned near the lifts, where hotel guests might accidentally touch or lean on them. To address this risk while maintaining the visual appeal of the space, a custom acrylic protection solution was proposed.

Safeguarding Vulnerable Artworks Near Hotel Lift Areas

Protecting art in high-traffic public spaces requires careful planning. The designers were concerned that the artworks’ proximity to the lifts increased the likelihood of accidental damage. Our goal was to implement a solution that was both aesthetically unobtrusive and structurally secure, ensuring the safety of the artworks without impacting the luxury feel of the hotel interior.

Custom Acrylic Protective Covers for Mixed-Media Artworks

The chosen solution involved precision-cut acrylic sheets mounted using standoff fixings. Acrylic was selected for its transparency, durability, and ability to protect delicate surfaces without altering the guest experience. The installation allowed visitors to appreciate the artworks fully while preventing physical contact and accidental damage.

Precision Drilling and Standoff Installation on Natural Stone Tiles

Installing protective covers on natural stone tile walls presented significant challenges. Each standoff location required careful drilling into the stone to insert secure wall plug fixtures. Accuracy was critical, any error could compromise the stability of the installation.

Once the standoffs were in place, the acrylic sheets were drilled on-site to match the exact positions. Drilling acrylic carries inherent risks, as the material can shatter if handled incorrectly. This stage demanded millimetre-perfect measurements and meticulous attention to detail.

On-Site Acrylic Drilling and Risk Management

The combination of brittle acrylic and the precision required for standoff alignment meant that every measurement had to be exact. Our team used controlled drilling techniques and specialized tools to ensure safety and accuracy, highlighting our expertise in art installation services and conservation-grade materials.

After-Hours Art Installation in an Operating Luxury Hotel

Due to the hotel’s operational schedule, the installation was conducted during evening hours to avoid disrupting guests. The project extended over several days, as careful drilling of stone tiles and precise measurement transfer onto acrylic were time-intensive tasks. Working in a live hotel environment required strict planning, highlighting our commitment to non-disruptive installation services.

Balancing Artwork Protection with Architectural Aesthetics

The final result successfully combined art protection with the luxury aesthetic of the hotel interior. The custom acrylic covers safeguard the mixed-media artworks from physical damage while remaining visually subtle. This project demonstrates how art conservation solutions can integrate seamlessly into high-traffic public spaces, preserving valuable works without compromising design.
